New Delhi: Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 12 noon on Friday after repeated disruptions by Opposition members, who raised slogans and displayed placards soon after the House assembled.

Speaker Om Birla expressed concern over the growing disruptions, saying MPs were elected to debate issues, not to shout slogans. He noted that 19 hours and 13 minutes of parliamentary time have already been lost during the current session due to protests.

Despite urging members to allow Question Hour to continue — including a listed question by Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi — the disorder continued. The Speaker adjourned the House within four minutes of proceedings.

The disruptions come amid continued tensions between the government and Opposition over several issues. On Thursday, the Lok Sabha passed the Motion of Thanks without Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s customary reply, as protests prevented normal functioning of the House.
