A chilling First Information Report (FIR) filed by a first-year law student in Kolkata has alleged that she was confined, gangraped, threatened, and blackmailed by three men inside the South Calcutta Law College campus in the city’s Kasba area. The complaint, filed on June 26, has led to the arrest of two current students and one former staffer of the institution.

According to Hindustan Times, the survivor in her FIR said she went to the campus around 4 pm for academic work when she was allegedly asked by one of the accused to remain back. The FIR describes how the situation escalated, what began as a conversation involving a proposal of marriage quickly turned into confinement, sexual assault, and intimidation.

As detailed in the complaint, one of the accused instructed the others to lock the room. The survivor was then allegedly taken to a guard room where the assault took place over the next several hours. She claims to have pleaded for mercy, even touching the main accused’s feet, but was reportedly ignored. She even claimed that the accused tried to hit her with a hockey stick and threatened to release her videos.

The survivor alleged that the incident was recorded on a mobile phone, and the footage was later used to blackmail her with threats of exposure and harm to her family and boyfriend.

Medical report corroborates claims

The police confirmed that a medical examination supported the survivor’s claims, showing injuries consistent with forceful sexual assault, including bite marks and nail scratches. The incident allegedly took place between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm on June 25 inside the college's guard room.

Accused was sent to police custody

The arrested have been identified as Monojit Mishra, a former staffer of the college and students Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee. The trio was presented before the Alipore court and has been remanded to police custody until July 1.

Digital evidence under review

Police have seized the mobile phones of the accused for forensic analysis, with investigators examining possible video footage of the assault, as mentioned in the survivor’s statement. The complaint also outlines repeated threats made to the victim in an attempt to silence her.

Political links spark controversy

One of the accused, Monojit Mishra, has been linked to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) through his social media profile, which identifies him as a former youth wing leader at the college. The revelation has triggered a political controversy, with the BJP accusing the TMC of failing to ensure the safety of women in educational institutions.

In response, the TMC issued a statement condemning the incident and distancing the party from the accused.
