New Delhi: Political leaders from across India on Monday paid tribute to former President and Bharat Ratna awardee Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on his death anniversary.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy paid homage to Kalam and recalled his role in advancing India's space and missile technology and strengthening the country's defence capabilities. He described Kalam's life as an example of dedication as a President, scientist and teacher, while highlighting his simple lifestyle, exceptional talent and patriotism.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah described Kalam as a visionary and an architect of India's space and missile programmes. He said Kalam's achievements in science helped India emerge as a strong strategic power, while his wisdom and words inspired millions to strive for excellence.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also remembered Kalam as the "People's President", "Missile Man of India" and an exceptional scientist. He highlighted Kalam's contribution to India's indigenous missile and strategic defence capabilities and said his life of simplicity, integrity and dedication continued to inspire generations.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also paid tribute to the former President, saying Kalam had transformed India's scientific aspirations into national achievements and inspired generations to dream beyond boundaries.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis remembered Kalam as the "Missile Man" whose life was dedicated to knowledge, innovation and national progress.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting also remembered Kalam, saying his greatest legacy continued to live on in the minds of the people he inspired.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu recalled Kalam's immense contribution to India's scientific and technological progress.

Kalam served as India's 11th President from 2002 to 2007. He played a key role in the country's missile and space programmes and remained particularly popular among students and young people.

Kalam died on July 27, 2015, after collapsing while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management Shillong. His death anniversary is observed across the country to remember his contributions, humility and vision for India's development.
