Bihar: As part of the ongoing ‘land-for-jobs’ scam investigation, Lalu Prasad Yadav appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Delhi on Wednesday. The ED has intensified its probe into the alleged ‘land-for-jobs’ scam, summoning Lalu Prasad Yadav for questioning.
This follows the appearance of Rabri Devi and Tej Pratap Yadav before the agency in Patna on March 18. The ED alleges that Lalu’s family acquired land from job seekers in exchange for railway appointments between 2004 and 2009.
The CBI’s original FIR accused Lalu’s family members of accepting land parcels at throwaway prices from candidates who were later appointed to Group D positions in the Indian Railways. The ED’s money laundering probe has further linked shell companies and financial transactions to the case, naming Rabri Devi, Misa Bharti, and Hema Yadav in its chargesheet.
As Lalu appeared before the ED, hundreds of RJD workers gathered outside, shouting slogans against the investigation. Party leaders have accused the BJP government of using central agencies to target opposition leaders ahead of elections.
Meanwhile, the ED has hinted at new developments in the case, stating that fresh evidence necessitated additional questioning. With Tejashwi Yadav also under scrutiny, the case is expected to fuel further political tensions in Bihar.
