A phone conversation involving comedian Kunal Kamra has recently gone viral on social media, with many users calling it funnier than Kamra’s own stand-up comedy. The conversation, reportedly with a Shiv Sena supporter, escalated into a heated exchange, reigniting controversy surrounding the comedian’s recent remarks about Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

In a 53-second audio clip that has captured widespread attention, the caller, speaking in the local language, begins by questioning Kamra about his comments on Shinde, whom Kamra had previously joked about in his show. The comedian, known for his satirical takes on political figures, casually responds, telling the caller, “The video that you saw,” when asked about his remarks on Shinde.

The situation takes an amusing turn when Kamra corrects the caller, who refers to Shinde as the Chief Minister, pointing out that Shinde is currently the Deputy Chief Minister. “Where is he the Chief Minister now? He is the Deputy Chief Minister,” Kamra quips, adding a light-hearted jab at the caller’s mistake.

The caller quickly shifts tone, starts abusing, threatening Kamra with a statement about the fate of 'The Habitat' studio, where his show was filmed in Mumbai. “Go and see what we have done to the studio. You will meet a similar fate wherever we find you,” the caller warns, referring to the vandalism of the studio and the hotel in which it was located by Shiv Sena workers.

The conversation continues with the caller asking Kamra where he is at the moment. Kamra calmly replies, “Tamil Nadu.” Another individual, presumably a supporter of Shiv Sena, then takes over the call, insisting on Kamra’s location. Kamra repeats his previous answer, saying he is in Tamil Nadu, to which the caller, confused, responds, “Now how to reach Tamil Nadu?”

The exchange was shared widely on the social media platform X, with many users finding the conversation oddly comedic. Congress leader Supriya Shrinate also shared the clip, calling it “amazing comedy.” Several users contributed to the viral moment by sharing clips from movie scenes, referencing Kamra’s “rickshaw song” from his show targeting Shinde.

One user humorously asked, "Now should he arrange a rickshaw for you guys from Thane?", a playful nod to Kamra’s previous comedy bit.

In a lengthy statement on X late Monday night over his 'Eknath Shinde comedy' controversy, he addressed those leaking his number on social media or calling him incessantly. He made it clear that all the calls go to his voicemail, where the callers would be subjected to “the very song” they hated.

“I will not apologise… I don’t fear this mob & I will not be hiding under my bed, waiting for this to die down,” Kamra wrote, adding that his statement was exactly what “Mr. Ajit Pawar (1st Deputy CM) said about Mr. Eknath Shinde (2nd Deputy CM).”

Clips from Kamra’s comedy show and the political row it sparked dominated headlines on Monday. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said Kamra should apologise for his “low-level comedy,” while opposition leader Uddhav Thackeray stated there was nothing wrong with what the comedian had said. Congress and CPI(M) also came out in support of Kamra.
