Forensic evidence, including DNA, confirms the rape. CCTV footage shows the accused holding the victim hostage

New Delhi: A 650-page chargesheet in the South Calcutta Law College rape case has confirmed rape through medical examination and DNA evidence, while also revealing that the prime accused, Manojit Mishra, had made multiple obscene videos of the victim and used them to blackmail her, police said.
What does the medical report reveal?
According to the police, the medical examination of the first-year student confirmed rape. Forensic tests further established that the DNA of Mishra matched the samples collected.
Who are the accused named in the chargesheet?
The survivor was allegedly gang-raped on 25 June inside the South Calcutta Law College campus by Mishra, an alumnus, along with co-accused Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee. The chargesheet has been filed against four people including Mishra, Ahmed, Mukherjee, and security guard Pinaki Banerjee.
What evidence was collected?
Investigators retrieved CCTV footage showing the accused dragging and holding the victim hostage. The chargesheet also mentions that obscene videos of the woman were found on the phones of the accused.
These clips were reportedly recorded through a hole in an exhaust fan on the wall. The voices of the accused can be heard in the videos, and forensic tests have confirmed that the samples match.
The police said that instead of alerting the authorities or nearby people, security guard Pinaki Banerjee locked the guard room during the assault. He has been named as one of the accused.
What is known about Mishra’s background?
The chargesheet further reveals that Mishra had been arrested on eight previous occasions but was bailed out by his associates each time.
He had been employed as a temporary staff member at the college since 2024, but was dismissed after the incident. Meanwhile, Ahmed and Mukherjee, who were students of the institute, were expelled.
