New Delhi: Outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was appointed on Tuesday to the Congress Working Committee, the highest executive forum of the Indian National Congress.

The organisational appointment was announced by party leadership one day prior to the scheduled inauguration of Chief Minister-designate D.K. Shivakumar, and follows Siddaramaiah’s recent resignation from the state’s top executive post.

According to an official party communication, All India Congress Committee President Mallikarjun Kharge finalised Siddaramaiah's induction into the governing panel with immediate effect.

Concurrently, senior Congress leaders held extensive, day-long negotiations on Tuesday alongside both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar to finalise the structure and ministerial assignments of the state's impending Cabinet.

Former party president Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to attend the oath-taking ceremony in Bengaluru alongside Kharge.

The political event is also expected to feature a prominent gathering of opposition figures, with the Congress chief ministers of Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana confirmed to attend alongside the chief ministers of Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand. Several secondary opposition leaders are also anticipated to be present at the ceremony.
