Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar at the latter’s residence for a second breakfast meeting amid ongoing speculations over the Chief Ministerial post. The informal sit-down comes amid an internal power tussle within the state Congress.
The breakfast spread featured steaming Nati chicken and soft Idlis, a step up from their first meeting with Idli-Sambar and Upma. The leaders were joined by Kunigal MLA Ranganath and Shivakumar’s brother and former MP DK Suresh.
After breakfast, both leaders addressed the media together, emphasising party unity and governance priorities.
Siddaramaiah said, “Our government is pro-farmer. We also discussed issues related to maize and sugarcane. I have spoken to the farmers, and the government has decided the price. I have also spoken to farmers, poultry farmers and fishery farmers.”
Shivakumar also shared photos of the breakfast meet on X, stating, "Hosted the Hon’ble CM for breakfast at my residence today as we reaffirm our commitment to good governance and the continued development of our state under the Congress vision."
This follows a previous high-level interaction on November 29 at Siddaramaiah’s Cauvery residence, which was also described by Shivakumar as a “productive discussion on Karnataka’s priorities and the road ahead.”
The breakfast meeting 2.0 is seen as an effort to calm tensions arising from the internal power struggle within the Congress. Shivakumar’s supporters have been advocating for him to take over as Chief Minister for the remaining 2.5 years of the Congress-led government, leading to a divide within the party.
Despite the informal and cordial nature of the meeting, Siddaramaiah reiterated his position that there would be no immediate change in the Chief Ministerial post. After an hour-long breakfast of Nati chicken, Idlis, and traditional accompaniments, both leaders reaffirmed party unity, agreeing to follow the directives of the Congress high command and resolve any “confusion” internally.
