Thiruvananthapuram: The main accused in the Kaliyakkavilai ASI murder case, Abdul Shemeem and Thoufeeq, will be presented before the court in Kanyakumari a few hours.

As the court remains closed for Pongal holidays, police are planning to present the accused in front of the magistrate at his house in Thakkala. The accused have been brought out of the police station.

The Udupi police had handed over Abdul Shemeem (32) and Thoufeeq (28), both natives of Thiruvithankodu near Nagercoil, to the Tamil Nadu police. The TN police team led by Kanniyakumari SP Sreenath had reached Udupi on Tuesday night.

From the Udupi DySP office, the two were presented before the magistrate there and then handed over to the TN police. Abdul Shemeem and Thoufeeq were taken to Tamil Nadu by road on Tuesday night itself. Both are activists of Al Ummah, a banned terrorist organisation.

Karnataka police interrogated Abdul Shemeem and Thoufeeq. Police have learned that they were involved in extremist activities led by Bengaluru-based Al Ummah activists Khaja Moideen and Mehaboob Pasha.

Bengaluru police had registered a case under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) against 17 members of Al Ummah including Mehaboob Pasha on January 11. They are linked to extremist activities in Karnataka. Mehaboob Pasha is absconding.  

Police had captured Abdul Shemeem and Thoufeeq from Udupi railway station when they were travelling in the Thiruvananthapuram–Veraval Express on Tuesday morning.
