TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking action against party MP Kalyan Banerjee over alleged misconduct and misogynistic remarks inside Parliament.

Four-time Trinamool Congress MP Dr Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking permission to file an official complaint against senior party leader and MP Kalyan Banerjee over alleged misconduct inside Parliament. The latest development comes amid growing tensions within the Trinamool Congress after Ghosh Dastidar resigned from all organisational posts in the party earlier this week.
In her letter to the Speaker on Thursday, Ghosh Dastidar accused Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha, of repeatedly verbally abusing her inside the House and showing disrespect towards women MPs. She also sought disciplinary action against him.
“I seek your permission to lodge a formal complain to you for redressal against Lok Sabha member of AlTC Kalyan kaneige, who has repeatedly verbally abused me inside the Lok Sabha. This misogyny has been against many lady members and needs to be punished,” she wrote in the letter.
The complaint surfaced a day after the Barasat MP stepped down from all organisational responsibilities in the party with immediate effect. In her resignation letter submitted to Trinamool’s West Bengal state president Subrata Bakshi, she indirectly targeted Banerjee and expressed dissatisfaction over the party leadership’s response.
“There is no point in holding a post when the indecent behaviour of another uneducated, rude party MP towards a woman MP cannot be stopped,” she wrote, adding that she failed to receive “cooperation and sympathy” from the senior leadership.
Despite resigning from party posts, Ghosh Dastidar clarified that she would continue as an ordinary member of the Trinamool Congress.
The political friction reportedly intensified after the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections, when Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee replaced Ghosh Dastidar as the party’s Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha with Kalyan Banerjee.
Soon after the change, the veteran MP posted a cryptic message on social media hinting at her disappointment.
“Known her since 76, started the journey in 84. Today I am rewarded for four decades of loyalty,” she wrote.
