Srinagar: A grenade blast at Srinagar's crowded Sunday Market near the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC)  left at least 12 civilians injured, on Sunday. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack, calling it "deeply disturbing" and urging swift action to ensure public safety.

"Today’s news of a grenade attack on innocent shoppers at the ‘Sunday market’ in Srinagar is deeply disturbing. There can be no justification for targeting innocent civilians," tweeted CM Abdullah.

"The security apparatus must do everything possible to end this spurt of attacks at the earliest so that people can go about their lives without any fear," he added.

The explosion reportedly occurred when a terrorist threw a grenade that landed on a vendor's cart, injuring nearby shoppers and vendors. The attack comes just a day after a senior Pakistani commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was killed by security forces in the Khanyar area of downtown Srinagar.

Immediately after the blast, police and paramilitary forces rushed to the scene to help the injured and launch a search operation for the attackers. The injured civilians were quickly taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
