25 BJP MLAs meet in Imphal on Friday as push to form popular government gains momentum in Manipur.

A meeting of 25 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs is presently underway on Friday at the residence of MLA Th. Biswajit Singh in Imphal. The leaders have gathered to deliberate on the formation of a popular government in Manipur, amid renewed political mobilisation in the state.
Follows MLAs’ claim to form government
On Wednesday, a group of 10 MLAs – comprising 8 from the BJP, 1 from the National People’s Party (NPP), and 1 Independent – met Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan in Imphal. The delegation submitted their intention to stake claim for forming the government in the state.
The developments have sparked speculation regarding the formation of a popular government in the state. Manipur remains under President’s rule, with its 60-member Legislative Assembly placed under suspended animation following the resignation of N Biren Singh as Chief Minister in February.
