New Delhi: IndiGo has started direct flight operations between Delhi, Mumbai and Athens, creating the first nonstop air connection between India and Greece and expanding its international network into Europe.

The service, which commenced on Friday, is being operated using the airline’s new Airbus A321 XLR aircraft. With this launch, IndiGo becomes the first Indian carrier to link the two countries through a direct route.

In a release, the airline said it will connect Athens and Delhi using the same aircraft from January 24.

"Namaste Athens! We’re thrilled to operate our first-ever flights to Athens from Mumbai and Delhi. Here are some special moments from our inaugural journey," the company said in a statement.

The Airbus A321 XLR operating the India–Greece services features a dual-class cabin layout. The aircraft is equipped with 12 IndiGoStretch seats and 183 seats in the Economy cabin.

  • Complimentary hot meals and beverages will be served to passengers in all cabins, drawing inspiration from both international and regional cuisines.
  • Vegetarian meals will be offered as the standard option, while travellers can choose to pre-book non-vegetarian meals if preferred.
  • Alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase in the Economy Class, with passengers also given the option to pre-book beverages before departure.
  • The aircraft is equipped with a next-generation digital in-flight entertainment system, enabling passengers to stream content directly on their personal devices during the flight.
