New Delhi: Age, ailments and altitude proved no match for Dr Shraddha Chauhan, who marked her 80th birthday with a leap of faith—literally. Defying vertigo, cervical spondylitis and prolapsed spinal discs, she became the oldest Indian woman to complete a tandem skydive, jumping from 10,000 feet.

The remarkable feat was made even more special by the presence of her son Brigadier Saurabh Singh Shekhawat, an accomplished soldier, mountaineer, equestrian and skydiving instructor at Skyhigh India. Together, they soared through the sky to celebrate a milestone that has since captured the hearts of thousands.

A video of the jump, shared by Skyhigh India on Instagram, has already garnered over 1,26,000 views. The clip opens with a powerful introduction: “Meet the oldest woman to skydive in India. She's 80.” The caption reads: “A mother. A milestone. A moment that soared. Courage knows no age. Love has no altitude.”

In the video, Brigadier Shekhawat proudly introduces his mother: “She is turning 80 years. And today I have the good fortune and honour of jumping with my mother.” In a heartwarming moment, Dr Chauhan plants a kiss on her son’s cheek as he wishes her a happy birthday, radiating calmness and confidence.

She reflects on the lifelong dream she fulfilled that day:

“Tamanna jo bachpan mein thi ki hum bhi akash mein ude jaise hawai jahaz udd raha hai, woh humare bete ke dwara icchha poori ho rahi hai, bohot proud moment hai.” (The dream I had since childhood—to fly through the sky like an airplane—is being fulfilled by my son. It’s a very proud moment.)

Holding her son’s hand as they boarded the aircraft, Dr Chauhan showed unwavering enthusiasm. Fully geared and fearless, the mother-son duo leapt into the open sky, landing safely to cheers and celebration.

The video ends with her cutting a birthday cake and receiving heartfelt wishes—one of them, seemingly through a video call—as the screen fades with the message: “Because courage knows no age. Happy Birthday, Iron Lady.”

Social media users poured in their admiration. One comment read, “What a dream come true moment... Sir, you and your mother both are an inspiration for many generations. Happy birthday to ma’am.” Another wrote, “Wow… how amazing and inspiring this is. More power to you!”

Brigadier Shekhawat responded with gratitude: “Many thanks to all for such love, affection, and good wishes. Once I reach home, I will make my mother read all the messages as she is not on Instagram. Once again, thank you all.”
