New Delhi: A 'super' mobile app is being developed by the Railways to offer train travellers a unified platform for all their needs, including ticket booking, train tracking, food ordering, and platform pass issuance. Railway sources indicate the app is expected to roll out by the end of December.
The new app is being created in collaboration with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) by the Centre for Railway Information Systems. Currently, railway-related services are accessible through separate apps and websites, with the IRCTC Rail Connect app being the most popular for ticket reservations.
In the 2023-24 fiscal year, IRCTC reported a net profit of Rs 1,111.26 crore, with total revenue reaching Rs 4,270.18 crore. Ticket sales contributed to 30.33% of this revenue.
