Officials said the returning nationals will not be released immediately as agencies seek to clarify how they ended up at the compounds and their roles.

Indian authorities are set to interview citizens who were employed at cyber-scam compounds in Myanmar, according to official sources on Thursday (6 November 2025). The move follows the repatriation of 270 Indian nationals who fled from the scam centres in Myawaddy to Thailand after military operations in late October.
Earlier on that day, two Indian Air Force flights landed at Hindon airbase in Uttar Pradesh, carrying back 270 Indians — including 26 women — from Chiang Mai in Thailand. The individuals had been among hundreds of international workers forced to escape the illicit operations set up in Myawaddy, which exploited the region’s weak cyber-governance and lax oversight.
Officials said the returning nationals will not be released immediately because probing agencies are seeking to clarify how they ended up at the compounds and what their roles were. “The purpose of the questioning is not only to understand the workings of these scam centres but also to prevent others from becoming part of similar international fraud networks,” a source told The Hindu. Investigators are expected to examine links between the Indian participants and the larger criminal syndicates, as well as the recruitment methods used by these networks.
The operation follows a 29 October announcement by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who said that India planned to evacuate around 500 citizens stranded in Thailand after fleeing a major cyber-fraud hub. That hub, known as “KK Park,” in Myawaddy, Myanmar, had reportedly been raided by the Myanmar military. Many of the workers trapped there were employed by the so-called “K.K. Cyber Crime Hub,” which Indian sources say defrauded thousands globally.
As per The Hindu report, The Indian embassy in Bangkok confirmed efforts to repatriate other nationals still in Myanmar, and reiterated its advisory telling Indians to verify credentials of overseas employers and to understand that visa-free entry into Thailand is for tourism and short business only, not for full-time employment.
