India has welcomed the US decision to designate The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy, as a global terrorist organisation

New Delhi: India welcomed the United States' decision to designate The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), as a global terrorist organisation. TRF had claimed responsibility for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar hailed the move as a “strong affirmation” of the growing India-US cooperation in counter-terrorism. In a post on social media, he thanked US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the State Department for officially labelling TRF as both a Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO) and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT).
The US State Department noted that the Pahalgam incident was the deadliest civilian attack in India since the 2008 Mumbai terror strikes carried out by LeT. It further highlighted that TRF has been involved in multiple attacks on Indian security forces, including incidents as recent as 2024.
The statement from Washington said the action reinforces the Trump Administration’s commitment to national security, counter-terrorism, and ensuring justice for victims of the Pahalgam attack.
