New Delhi: Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has reportedly been moved to a high-security block at Gujarat's Sabarmati Central Jail, where strict isolation measures limit his movement and contact with other prisoners, according to a report by The Times of India.

Bishnoi is learnt to have been shifted from the smaller “Dus Kholi” enclosure to “Do Sau Kholi”, a specialised prison block that houses around 200 inmates accused or convicted in serious criminal and terrorism-related cases. His cell reportedly measures approximately 7.5 by 11 feet.

The move is part of a security arrangement aimed at restricting Bishnoi's ability to communicate with associates and manage his criminal network from behind bars.

From extortion calls to strict prison surveillance

Before 2023–24, Bishnoi was reported to have made extortion calls, circulated threatening audio and video messages and given interviews while being held in different prisons.

However, investigators have reportedly recorded no direct calls or communications originating from him over the past two years.

The “Do Sau Kholi” block is divided into four separate sections, each accommodating around 50 prisoners, to restrict movement between cells. The block houses inmates linked to serious cases, including convicts in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts case.

Bishnoi was previously held in “Dus Kholi”, a smaller high-security enclosure designed to accommodate 10 inmates. Before that, he was lodged in Tihar Jail and prisons in Punjab. Recordings of alleged threatening calls attributed to him, including calls targeting call centre owners, had surfaced during his time in custody.

Limited contact with the outside world

Under the reported security arrangements, Bishnoi remains under round-the-clock surveillance, with limited opportunities for interaction outside the prison.

He reportedly spends time meditating, reciting the Hanuman Chalisa and observing fasts. He is also said to follow a vegetarian diet.

His reported contact with the outside world is largely limited to court proceedings through video conferencing and discussions with his lawyer about his legal strategy.

Bishnoi's network allegedly continues to operate overseas

Despite the restrictions on Bishnoi inside prison, his alleged criminal syndicate is reported to continue operating through associates based abroad.

According to the report, a group of senior associates coordinates activities such as recruitment, logistics and operational planning from overseas locations. A separate group reportedly handles planning, financing and the selection of targets.

Among the associates named are Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara, who are reported to have gone underground following the FBI's Operation Hardball.
