Mumbai: Actor Imran Khan has once again voiced his support for the ongoing CJP-backed student protests, this time by joining a solidarity march in Mumbai after previously speaking out on social media.

During the march, Imran was asked how he views actors who believe that art should remain separate from politics and social issues. Responding to the question, he said an artist's personal beliefs are an essential part of meaningful creative work.

"True art is going to have an individual artist point of view embedded within it, and as part of our human nature, we are going to have opinion and perspective that we hold through to ourselves. If you can't stand by your opinions and if you do not pour your own heart into your art, your art has no value," he said.

His remarks came a day after he shared a strongly worded note on social media reacting to the alleged police action against students participating in the protests.

Expressing disappointment over the reported lathi-charge, Imran wrote that watching students being beaten and tear-gassed had deeply affected him. He said those who had worked hard only to feel let down by the system deserved to be heard rather than met with force.

In his post, the actor questioned how a country could claim to protect its future while allowing such treatment of its students.

"Are these not the children of Mother India? If not them, for whom do we build, and whose future do we claim to protect?" he wrote.

He also criticised those who expected student protesters to remain organised and disciplined while, according to him, failing to hold those in positions of authority to the same level of accountability.

The student movement, led by the CJP, has continued for almost a month, with protesters demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak and other examination-related irregularities.

Social activist Sonam Wangchuk has also extended his support to the campaign and has been on a hunger strike for the past 26 days.

On Monday, students gathered at Jantar Mantar before marching towards Parliament as part of the 'Chalo Sansad' campaign. During the demonstration, Delhi Police allegedly used lathi-charge, tear gas and other crowd control measures to disperse protesters.

The incident has prompted reactions from several members of the film industry. Along with Imran Khan, actors Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt have also publicly criticised the reported use of force against the students and expressed solidarity with the protest movement.
