Hyderabad police have announced a stringent 'Zero Drugs' policy for New Year celebrations, deploying special teams across the city
Hyderabad: With the New Year approaching, Hyderabad City Police have rolled out a multi-layered security plan targeting drug use during public and private celebrations. The initiative, chaired by Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, aims to curb illicit activities across pubs, hotels, restaurants, and event venues.

Special surveillance teams from the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), Task Force, and Special Branch are actively monitoring the city. Police will also keep a watch on individuals previously involved in drug-related offences and track attendees entering the city for festivities. Private gatherings in service apartments and hostels will not be exempt from scrutiny.
Time restrictions and public safety
All New Year events at pubs, hotels, and restaurants must close by 1:00 AM. Authorities have warned that violations will result in strict action, including immediate cancellation of licenses. Check-posts and barricades at major hubs like Necklace Road, Tank Bund, Maitrivanam, and KBR Park will ensure the city remains safe without inconveniencing the general public.
Police message to citizens
Commissioner Sajjanar emphasised the commitment: “Not a single drug case should be reported in Hyderabad during these celebrations. Every officer must coordinate to uphold the prestige of the City Police while facilitating peaceful festivities.”
The high-level meeting included senior officials such as DCPs N. Swetha, K. Apoorva Rao, Rakshitha K. Murthy, Ch. Rupesh, Ch. Srinivas, and others, ensuring all units work in sync for effective enforcement.
As Hyderabad gears up to welcome 2026, the City Police aim to balance celebration with safety, proving that vigilance and fun can go hand in hand.
