Hyderabad: The official X account of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad faced unauthorised access on Monday, but was quickly restored, the airport operator said.

The IT team detected the breach and immediately initiated measures to recover the account, GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) said in a statement.

“RGIA Hyderabad promptly addressed an instance of unauthorised access to its official X account. The account has been restored and is fully operational. The incident has been reported to the relevant cybercrime authorities and X, and a detailed investigation is underway,” the statement said.

GHIAL clarified that the airport’s X account is not integrated with its operational systems. Therefore, the incident had no impact on airport operations, passenger services or other operational systems.

Sources at GHIAL said the incident was contained proactively and no operational systems were affected during the period of unauthorised access.

Posts promoting a cryptocurrency-related rewards programme reportedly appeared on the account while it was compromised.

Officials initially described the incident as a hacking attempt but later clarified that the account had experienced “unauthorised access”. The airport operator has reported the incident to the relevant authorities and is investigating the matter.
