The Indian Army successfully thwarted a Pakistan-backed drone attack targeting the Golden Temple during Operation Sindoor.

Amritsar: In response to heightened terrorist activities, the Indian Army launched Operation Sindoor on May 7. This decisive military campaign targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK), aiming to dismantle key militant bases. Precision strikes were carried out at locations including Bhawalpur, Jaish’s headquarters, and Muridke, Lashkar-e-Taiba’s training centre. Nearly 100 terror operatives were eliminated as a result.
Drone attack attempt on Golden Temple
Following the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives including a Nepali national, tensions escalated along the India-Pakistan border. Pakistani forces retaliated with various attacks, including an attempted drone strike targeting the Golden Temple, a significant civilian and religious site.
A soldier stationed near the international border explained, “After not getting any success in causing damage to our air bases and military installations for about 3 days, they targeted civilian areas, Gurdwara Sahib and other areas with these Kamikaze drones and rockets. All the air raid was intercepted and shot down with great precision.”
Indian Army’s vigilance and preparedness
The Indian Army’s swift response and advanced defence systems played a crucial role in foiling the attack.
Another soldier highlighted the preparedness of the forces, stating, “We are prepared for all and any kind of threats that the enemy might throw at us, which includes drone attacks, air attacks, counter-bombardment and any other hybrid threats. We stand vigilant. We stand alert and are ready to thwart any nefarious designs that the enemy might throw at us.”
Successful counteractions and weaponry used
The defence forces effectively used only 10 percent of their ground-based air defence ammunition during these operations.
“We have recovered Kamikaze drones and micro-drones like YIHA-III and Songar, which are likely of Turkish origin... It is very difficult to breach our air defence wall,” a soldier shared, underscoring the strength of India’s defensive capabilities.
Summary of recent engagements
During the night of May 8-9, an infiltration attempt by enemy forces was met with precise firepower.
“We fired accurately at the enemy and foiled their infiltration attempt. The result of our firing was that by the morning, the enemy came on their knees and hoisted a white flag on their post,” recounted a soldier involved in the operation.
The Indian Army remains committed to protecting the nation’s borders and citizens.
“We assure our countrymen that as long as the Indian Army is deployed on the borders of the country, no one can raise their eyes towards this country,” affirmed one of the soldiers.
