Gurugram: Police have arrested a man accused of raping a woman he met on a dating app after allegedly deceiving her with a false promise of marriage.

According to officials, the woman lodged a complaint on Tuesday, stating that the accused, identified as Gaurav, had developed a relationship with her and later established physical relations on the assurance that he would marry her. She alleged that he subsequently refused to go ahead with the marriage.

Following the complaint, a case was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Sector 50 police station. Acting on the case, a police team arrested Gaurav late on Tuesday night from Gurugram. He is employed with a private company in the city.

Police also confirmed that the accused’s mobile phone has been recovered and is currently being examined as part of the ongoing investigation. “We are questioning the accused,” a Gurugram Police spokesperson said.
