Mass return from Gulf, West Asia: over 12 lakh passengers reach India since Feb 28

New Delhi: The Government of India has stated that approximately 12.65 lakh passengers have returned from the Gulf and West Asia region since 28 February, as travel patterns continue to shift amid evolving regional conditions.

The Ministry of External Affairs said it is closely monitoring the situation, with Indian missions across the region operating round-the-clock helplines to assist citizens and ensure their safety and welfare. Embassies and consulates are also in regular contact with local authorities to address travel-related concerns.

According to the government, flight connectivity between India and several Gulf countries is gradually stabilising. Airlines in the United Arab Emirates are operating limited services, while operations are also continuing from Saudi Arabia and Oman. In Qatar, flight services have resumed after partial reopening of airspace, with connecting routes supporting travel to India.

Air connectivity has also begun improving in other parts of the region, including Kuwait and Bahrain, where airspace has reopened and airlines are restoring operations in phases. Restricted services are also being allowed in Iraq, while Iran has partially opened its airspace for select flights. India has advised its nationals in Iran to avoid non-essential travel and exit where necessary with embassy assistance.

The government added that maritime operations remain stable, with no reported incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels, and all Indian seafarers in the region are safe.
