In an unusual incident, a simple translation error by the Indian Railways led to a significant change in the name of a train. The Hatia-Ernakulam Express was mistakenly translated to “Murder Express” in Malayalam. This inadvertent alteration caused quite a stir and raised eyebrows among passengers and the public alike.

The confusion arose as the person who translated the term ‘Hatia’ from Hindi on Google Translate, got back ‘Kolapathakam’, which means ‘murder’ in Malayalam. 

Passengers were understandably alarmed when they saw the new name displayed on station boards and tickets. The Railways promptly realized the error and took corrective measures. 

In the end, the train’s name was rectified, but photos of it are still circulating on social media. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Ranchi Division, said that the mistake was caused by the confusion between the Hindi word Hatia and its Malayalam meaning of murder.
