Popular folk singer Maithili Thakur officially joined the BJP in Patna, expressing a desire for development in her region ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025.

Patna: Popular folk and devotional singer Maithili Thakur officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Patna on Tuesday, just weeks ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025. The induction took place in the presence of Bihar BJP chief Dilip Jaiswal.
"Whatever party assigns me the job, I will do it," she said after joining the BJP.
Hailing from Benipatti in Madhubani district, Thakur is known across India for her soulful renditions in Maithili, Bhojpuri, Hindi, and other regional languages. Her deep-rooted cultural connection with Bihar’s folk traditions has earned her a loyal following, particularly among rural and youth voters.
Speaking to ANI earlier, she expressed interest in using political power to bring development to her region.
“I want to go back to my village. But if I get the authority to serve my region, there will be nothing bigger than that for me,” she said.
“I am not coming here to do politics or play games, my goal is to have power to bring about a change.”
She was awarded the prestigious 'Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar' of the Sangeet Natak Akademi (SNA) in 2021.
