Reports have emerged that the Vande Bharat Sleeper train service is finally set to begin after much anticipation. The inaugural service reportedly will run between New Delhi and Srinagar. Departing from Delhi at 7 p.m., the train will arrive in Srinagar the following morning at 8 a.m. Covering a distance of over 800 kilometres, the Vande Bharat Sleeper train will complete the journey in under 13 hours. Currently, there are no direct trains between Delhi and Srinagar, but the new service will offer the first direct rail connection between the Kashmir Valley and Delhi.

Officials have confirmed that most of the work on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project has been completed, with the remaining tasks expected to finish by December. It is said that first Vande Bharat Sleeper train will begin operations on January 26, 2025, coinciding with Republic Day.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper is said to have 16 sleeper coaches, including AC three-tier, two-tier, and first-class options, with a total capacity of 823 passengers. According to reports, ticket fares will be Rs 2,000 for AC three-tier, Rs 2,500 for two-tier, and Rs 3,000 for first-class.

Train features 

Passengers can expect a more comfortable journey compared to the Rajdhani trains. In addition to the facilities available on the Vande Bharat Express, the sleeper train will be equipped with several amenities to enhance the long-distance travel experience. These will include reading lights, bio-vacuum toilets, hot water for bathing, CCTV surveillance, and a system for announcements and emergency communication with the train’s loco pilot.

Manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), the train’s compartments are made from stainless steel, ensuring durability and safety. The design focuses on minimising vibrations and ensuring comfort, with added features like buffers and couplers for passenger safety.
