Police have launched a formal investigation into former Indian cricketer and actor Yograj Singh following the emergence of a viral video containing allegedly derogatory remarks directed at women. The controversy, stemming from a clip linked to a web series, has sparked massive public outcry.

Acting on a complaint by advocate Ujjwal Bhasin, authorities at the Sector 36 police station registered a First Information Report (FIR). Singh currently faces charges under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 67A of the Information Technology Act, laws specifically designed to address insults to female modesty and the electronic transmission of offensive material.

In his submission to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Bhasin described the actor's language as a "direct insult" to the dignity of women. He argued that Singh, a high-profile public figure, had used regressive rhetoric that undermines the core Sikh values of equality and respect. The complaint further suggests that such comments risk normalising misogyny within the society.

While the police have confirmed that digital evidence is being forensically examined, the legal fallout may expand. Bhasin has called for action against the series’ producers and directors, though he noted his disappointment that charges for wounding religious sentiments have not yet been included.
