The decision comes in view of the upcoming general elections to 21 urban local bodies in the state, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC).

Agartala: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tripura for a second time. The decision comes in view of the upcoming general elections to 21 urban local bodies in the state, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC).
New Electoral Roll Revision Timeline
According to a senior Election Department official, with January 1, 2027, set as the qualifying date, the revision process—previously slated to begin on October 27—will now commence on December 15.
-
December 26 – January 25, 2027: Month-long house-to-house verification visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
-
February 1, 2027: Publication of the draft electoral rolls.
-
February 1 onwards: Electors can submit claims and objections regarding the draft rolls.
-
April 7, 2027: Publication of the final updated electoral rolls following the disposal of claims and objections.
Reasons for Deferment
This marks the second delay for the SIR exercise across Tripura's 60 Assembly constituencies. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Brijesh Panday had initially announced that the revision would run from September 5 to December 23.
However, the ECI first deferred the schedule due to the September 28 Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), which spans roughly 70 percent of the state's geographical area. The latest postponement allows election machinery to prioritise preparations for the upcoming urban local body polls.
Key Electoral Figures
The State Election Commission (SEC) has already initiated administrative preparations for the 21 urban local bodies, with a formal announcement of the civic election schedule expected shortly.
