Chennai: With less than two months to go for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the ruling DMK has stepped up preparations by launching a large-scale constituency-level survey to identify winnable candidates and assess its electoral prospects.

Party sources said the field exercise aims to shortlist the strongest contender in each constituency. It analyses factors such as local popularity, organisational strength, past election results and the current political climate.

Surveys are being conducted among voters, party workers and key local influencers to give the leadership a clear picture of the ground situation.

Respondents are first asked which party they intend to support. They are then shown a list of possible DMK candidates and asked to select their preferred nominee.

“The responses are compiled and submitted to the leadership to determine who has the best winning chances,” a party source said.

Caste and socio-economic details are also being recorded to better understand voting patterns.

Feedback is being gathered from booth-level workers, local leaders and opinion-makers, giving the party a layered assessment of each constituency.

Sources said the exercise will also shape the DMK’s seat-sharing strategy with alliance partners. Constituencies such as Thondamuthur, traditionally allotted to allies, may be reconsidered based on the party’s current strength.

Senior leaders believe the data-driven approach will help the DMK enter alliance talks with clarity and avoid last-minute changes.

The party is expected to form a formal committee soon to begin seat-sharing discussions once the survey reports are reviewed.

With the campaign season nearing, the DMK is combining grassroots feedback with strategic planning to maximise its electoral performance.
