Vijay launched the TVK in 2024. His rapid rise in politics has reportedly sparked interest among several other actors

Chennai: Actor Dhanush is reportedly preparing to enter politics, with indications that superstar Rajinikanth could extend his support to the actor’s political debut. An official announcement is expected soon.
According to media reports, Dhanush has decided to contest the 2031 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and that the name of his proposed political party has already been registered with the Election Commission. However, people close to the actor have not confirmed the reports.
Rajinikanth had earlier announced plans to enter politics but later backed away. Subsequently, actor Vijay launched the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and went on to achieve a major electoral victory, eventually becoming Chief Minister.
There has been speculation that Rajinikanth and his fans may have been left disappointed over the missed political opportunity. Against this backdrop, reports suggest that Rajinikanth could be looking to support Dhanush and help him make his political entry.
Dhanush has reportedly already begun strengthening his fan association ahead of a possible political launch. The organisation is being divided at the district level, with office-bearers being appointed, while instructions have also been issued to expand its membership. These moves are being viewed as possible preparations for Dhanush’s entry into politics.
Vijay launched the TVK in 2024. His rapid rise in politics has reportedly sparked interest among several other actors. Apart from Dhanush, there have also been rumours about actors Suriya, Sivakarthikeyan and Vijay Sethupathi entering politics.
Rajinikanth first stated he would enter politics in December 2017. He launched a precursor organisation called Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM) in 2018 to organise his fans. He later announced that he would launch a political party in January 2021 ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly elections.
However, he later cited health concerns, blood pressure fluctuations, and COVID-19 pandemic risks as reasons to call off his political launch. In July 2021, he officially dissolved RMM and converted his political outfit back into a standard fan welfare club.
