Ankola (Karnataka) : The search for missing driver Arjun of Kozhikode who went missing in the landslide at Shiroor ten days ago would be continued on Thursday night too, using drone services, said Uttara Kannada deputy commissioner Lakshmipriya. While speaking to reporters at the spot where the landslide took place, she said that attempts will also be made to detect human presence using thermal scanners. The Commissioner said that there is a higher chance of detecting human presence in the cooler night temperatures.
According to a preliminary report from Major M Indrabalan and his team, signals have been received from three locations in the area. Of these, multiple signals have been detected from one of the three locations. Based on the inspections by the team on Thursday night and Friday morning, the search operation would move on to the next stage, he said.
Once the truck is located, the next step will involve Navy divers conducting a search by swimming towards the spot. But, as of now, the task looks very arduous as the undercurrent in the river is quite strong, reaching up to six knots. Major Indrabalan said that divers can only operate safely in currents up to three knots.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that the team must wait until the strength of the flow subsides, emphasizing that they can not risk more lives.
