New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi and adjoining areas, warning of heavy rainfall and gusty winds reaching up to 10 kmph on Monday.

Several parts of the national capital witnessed overnight showers as rain lashed Delhi-NCR between Sunday night and Monday morning.

The IMD cautioned that the weather may deteriorate through the day and advised residents to stay alert, monitor updates, avoid travel where possible, and remain indoors during heavy spells.

Frequent downpours in Delhi often lead to waterlogging and traffic snarls, disrupting movement across key routes.

Western Disturbance Behind Showers

According to the IMD, a Western Disturbance affecting northwest India is bringing the current spell of rain, which is likely to continue till October 7.

The system will also trigger a drop in minimum temperatures from Wednesday as cold northwesterly winds set in.

Widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are expected across Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Isolated hailstorms are also likely in some areas.

The IMD added that minimum temperatures in northwest India may fall by 4–5°C between October 8 and 10.
