New Delhi: Poll authorities in the national capital have initiated a comprehensive reverification exercise targeting more than 47 lakh voters whose names were excised from the draft electoral rolls, aiming to prevent the exclusion of any eligible citizen in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashok Kumar announced on Friday.

The corrective measures follow widespread public complaints regarding living residents and long-term occupants of registered addresses whose names were wrongfully omitted from the preliminary lists published on 31 August.

Updating the progress on technical discrepancies, Kumar confirmed that approximately 25 lakh of the 33.12 lakh cases where voters received notices for non-mapping or logical inconsistencies have been successfully resolved.

Addressing journalists, Kumar said, “The booth-level officers have been directed to reverify the voters whose names were not in the draft rolls published after the enumeration phase. Our efforts are to ensure that no genuine voter's name is omitted in the final voters lists that will be published on December 4.”

Kumar explained that field personnel deployed across all 70 Assembly constituencies are simultaneously handling the disposal of notices issued to draft-roll electors while conducting physical reverifications of excluded citizens.

Outlining the remedial mechanism available to affected individuals, Kumar noted, “Voters who were left out in the draft rolls can fill up Form 6 to be included in the final voters lists to be published on December 4.”

Reiterating the Election Commission’s mandate for administrative leniency during data verification, he added, “The BLOs have been given specific orders that the cases of voters with minor mistakes in details must not be rejected summarily.”

Following the initial enumeration phase of the SIR, 47.56 lakh names were removed from the city's 1.45 crore registered voters under the ASDD (Absent, Shifted, Dead or Duplicate) classification. Concurrently, notices were issued to 33.12 lakh individuals among the 97.53 lakh included in the draft roll due to logical errors, missing records or lack of linkage with the 2002 baseline SIR database.
The Chief Electoral Officer assured that all remaining notice-related discrepancy cases will be fully processed and resolved by October 30.
