New Delhi: At least nine schools across Delhi were put on high alert on Monday after receiving bomb threat emails, prompting emergency evacuations and large-scale security checks, officials said.
According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), distress calls started coming in from schools across different parts of the capital during morning hours. Fire tenders, bomb disposal squads, and dog units were immediately rushed to the campuses as a precautionary measure.
"A total of nine schools have reported receiving bomb threats so far. Fire service teams immediately reached the premises and thorough checks are underway," a DFS official said.
The threatening email reportedly contained provocative messages like 'Delhi will become Khalistan. Punjab is Khalistan. In memory of Afzal Guru'. The mail also mentioned a possible blast in Parliament on February 13 at 1.11 pm, triggering heightened security across sensitive locations in the city.
The schools that received the threats include Loreto Convent School in Delhi Cantonment, Cambridge School in Srinivaspuri and New Friends Colony, The Indian School in Sadiq Nagar, DTEA School in INA, Venkateshwar Global School in Rohini, CM SHRI School in Rohini and Bal Bharati School in Rohini, an official of the Delhi Fire Services said.
Students and staff were safely moved out of buildings while authorities carried out thorough checks. So far, no suspicious objects have been found at any of the locations.
Senior police officers said cyber teams are tracing the source of the emails, while security arrangements across the national capital have been reviewed and strengthened.
