New Delhi: A Kerala nurse working in Delhi revealed that carelessness from the part of a private hospital in Punjabi Bagh led to the spread of coronavirus to others. A patient was treated at the private hospital without realizing that he was corona positive and it led to four others getting infected. As of now, 108 hospital employees are under observation.
The patient was admitted in Punjabi Bagh hospital due to kidney related diseases. He was then shifted to Ganga Ram hospital. where he tested positive for the virus.
The nurse told Mathrubhumi news that the ventilator used by the patient was used for another patient without disinfecting it. But the patient was tested for coronavirus only after he was taken to Ganga Ram hospital..
“What happened from the part of the hospital was a serious lapse. The patient was admitted in Punjabi Bagh hospital on March 10 and he was shifted to Ganga Ram hospital on March 30. He tested positive for coronavirus only on March 31. The doctor and nurses, who made contact with him, showed symptoms of the disease and later tested positive. The patient passed away eventually,” nurse Vipin Krishna said.
Vipin Krishna also said that it was the shortage of Personal Protective Equipment that led to the medical staffs catching the virus.
UNA Delhi president Rince Joseph accused the private hospital of not adhering to the protocols issued by the government. He also said neither the Delhi government nor the Central government were able to ensure the availability of protective kits for medical staffs.
“We had written to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on the subject. However, no action was taken. The hospital was not even ready to quarantine the medical staffs even after the patient tested positive." Rince Joseph also asked the government to take over the control of private hospitals.
