Delhi celebrates Diwali with drone show, diyas, cultural performances; metro timings revised.

Videos emerging on social media on Saturday show Kartavya Path illuminated with thousands of diyas and a spectacular drone show, as the Delhi government’s Diwali-special Deepotsav event begins. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her cabinet ministers were also present.
The Diwali programme, organised for the public, features the lighting of 1.51 lakh lamps, Ram Katha, a drone show, and various cultural performances. Social media footage shows the path glowing with rows of lamps and the drone show creating patterns in the night sky.
Metro revises timings for Diwali
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has adjusted train schedules in view of the festival. On the eve of Diwali, Sunday (October 19), metro services on the Pink, Magenta, and Grey lines will commence at 6 am instead of the usual 7 am.
On Diwali day, Monday (October 20), the last trains from all terminal stations, including the Airport Express Line, will depart at 10 pm instead of 11 pm. Services will otherwise operate as per routine timings.
Significance of Diwali
Diwali, or Deepawali, is among the most widely celebrated festivals in India and abroad. Known as the "festival of lights," it signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
The festival also commemorates Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after defeating the demon king Ravana. Devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi, clean and decorate their homes, exchange sweets and gifts, wear new clothes, and burst firecrackers.
This year, Diwali will be celebrated on the intervening night of October 20 and 21.
