New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal exercised her franchise in the Delhi Assembly elections on Wednesday and encouraged citizens to actively participate in the democratic process.

After casting her vote, Maliwal stated, "I appeal to the people of Delhi to come out and cast their votes. Your votes are very important, they will decide the future of the national capital. I have also cast my vote for the development of Delhi. The people of Delhi must participate in democracy and must cast their votes."

Maliwal, a former chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) and a prominent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, has been in the headlines recently due to her differences with former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal.

Her strained ties with Kejriwal came to the forefront following her allegations of mistreatment by a close aide of him at his residence. The controversy escalated within AAP, leading to speculations about internal rifts in the party. Despite the tensions, she remains a key figure in the party and continues to advocate for women's rights and social justice.

As polling continues in Delhi, the election will determine whether AAP retains its stronghold or if the BJP and Congress can turn the tide in their favor. The results will be declared on February 8.
