New Delhi: In a statement likely to spark strong political debate, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday said that Brahmins “ignite the flame of knowledge in our society” and that every government should work for the community’s welfare.

Speaking at the All India Brahmin Conference organised by the Shri Brahmin Sabha in Delhi’s Pitampura, Gupta praised the community’s historical and cultural contributions, saying,

“If anyone is igniting the flame of knowledge in society, it is our Brahmin community. They worship not only scriptures but also weapons. Only through weapons and scriptures can we protect society and the country today.”

The Chief Minister lauded the Brahmin community’s role in “propagating religion and fostering goodwill,” adding that they have always worked for the benefit of society.

“No matter which government is in power, it should work for the welfare of the Brahmin community to take them forward,” she said.

Taking a swipe at previous Delhi governments, Gupta remarked that the national capital had been “moving at a slow pace for 27 years.”

“Now is the time to shift gears and accelerate the process because it seems that the states around us have surpassed us,” she added.

Rekha Gupta emphasised that her administration is committed to creating an inclusive and equitable Delhi.

“Only a united society can achieve true progress,” she said, asserting her government’s aim to provide equal opportunities and recognition to every community.
