New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has responded after she was attacked during a public hearing (Jan Sunvaai) at her Civil Lines residence on Wednesday morning.

In a statement released later in the day, Gupta described the incident as “a cowardly attempt” not just on her personally, but on the very spirit of public service.

“The attack on me during this morning’s public hearing was not just an attack on me, but a cowardly attempt on our resolve to serve Delhi and work for the welfare of the people,” the Chief Minister said.

The incident occurred while Gupta was addressing citizens as part of her Jansabha initiative. According to Delhi Police, the accused -- identified as Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya, a resident of Rajkot -- initially handed over some documents to the CM before allegedly attempting to assault her. He was quickly apprehended and taken to the Civil Lines Police Station. A senior police official confirmed that an investigation is underway.

Gupta, who appeared visibly shaken immediately after the incident, said she is now recovering well.

“Naturally, I was in shock after this attack, but now I am feeling better. I request all my well-wishers not to trouble themselves by coming to meet me. I will soon be seen working among you again,” she stated.

In a strong message of resilience, the Chief Minister vowed that the attack would not deter her from her responsibilities or dampen her commitment to public service.

“Such attacks can never break my spirit or my resolve to serve the people. Now, I will be among you with even more energy and dedication than before,” she affirmed.

Gupta also assured that public hearings and grievance redressal efforts will continue as planned, saying, “Your trust and support are my greatest strength.”

She concluded her message by thanking Delhiites for their overwhelming support and well-wishes:

“I express my heartfelt gratitude for your immense love, blessings, and good wishes.”
