Pune: Two Kerala nurses have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Pune. Both the nurses were working at a private multi-specialty hospital near Pune railway station. This is the first instance of medical staff contracting the virus in Pune.
The hospital administrators sent the samples of a 45-year-old Kerala nurse for testing after she started showing COVID like symptoms. The nurse had just returned from a one-week vacation. The test confirmed that the nurse was infected with coronavirus.
Following this, the hospital isolated 36 nurses who were in contact with the infected nurse and sent all their samples for testing to the National Virology Institute. This test confirmed that another 24-year-old nurse was also infected with the virus. Both the nurses have been admitted in the isolation wards at the hospital.
The samples of the husband and the children of the 45-year-old nurse have also been sent for testing. Currently, they are being kept under isolation at Pimpri Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital.
