A day after suffering a heavy defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, the Congress launched a sharp attack on the Election Commission, alleging that the entire poll process lacked transparency and fairness. The party’s top leaders: Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, K C Venugopal, Ajay Maken, and Krishna Allavaru met on Saturday to review what turned out to be the Congress’ second-worst performance in Bihar, winning only 6 out of 61 seats.
Congress’ viral social media post triggers backlash
Adding fuel to the political storm, the Congress released a controversial X post in which the three tricolour lines of the Election Commission’s logo were shown bowing down to Prime Minister Modi.
The post went viral, but the comment section quickly turned hostile, with many users mocking Congress.
Some even edited the graphic to make the Congress bow, while others slammed the party with comments like:
“Tum jeeto toh loktantr, tum haaro toh loktantr ki hatya — kya doglapan hai?”
(“If you win, it’s democracy. If you lose, it’s the death of democracy — what double standards is this?”)
Congress blames ECI for Bihar defeat
After the meeting, AICC general secretary K C Venugopal strongly questioned the role of the Election Commission, claiming the Bihar result was “unbelievable” and “not trusted by the people”.
He alleged that the election process was “completely questionable”.
"The Election Commission is totally one-sided. Whatever they are doing, there is no transparency at all, and therefore, this process is questionable. Anyway, we will collect all data from everywhere from entire Bihar and then present the facts," he added.
Venugopal said the party is collecting booth-level data across Bihar and promised to present “concrete proof of vote theft” within weeks.
The Congress also issued a hard-hitting statement claiming the results reflect “vote chori on a gigantic scale, masterminded by the PM, the HM, and the Election Commission.”
