New Delhi: Audiences witnessed a remarkable classical dance drama presentation - ‘Lankaa’, by Bharatanatyam artists Bhadra Sinha and Gayathri Sharma, depicting the story of Raavan and his wife Mandodari.

Drawing episodes from various versions of the Ramayana, as well as other texts and folklore, the artists present the tale of Raavan’s determined rise as a self-made, all-powerful king whose thirst for supremacy pushed him to embark upon a journey of self-destruction. ‘Lankaa’ is also about Mandodari, the queen of the formidable kingdom, whose righteousness paled in front of
Raavan’s arrogance and failed to protect her kingdom from falling apart. Choreographed by noted Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam exponent, Dr G Ratheesh Babu, ‘Lankaa’ was presented as part of India International Centre’s Monsoon Festival.

The artists transported the audience to the land of ‘Lankaa’, successfully capturing their imagination and leaving them in the thrall of Raavan and Mandodari.
