An 11-year-old girl from Puducherry has performed Bharatanatyam nearly 20 feet underwater to highlight the growing problem of plastic pollution in oceans

Puducherry: Thaaragai Aarathana, an 11-year-old Bharatanatyam dancer trained in diving, performed a full classical dance sequence underwater while wearing traditional attire, including jewellery and makeup. The performance was aimed at spreading awareness about the dangers of plastic waste to marine life.
A video of the underwater performance, shared on Instagram by Shubham Bhardwaj on December 23, 2025, quickly went viral. The post described Aarathana as a young dancer who turned classical art into a message for ocean conservation.
