Three children died and two others were injured after a poolcar carrying them home from school plunged into a pond in Howrah’s Uluberia on Monday.

Howrah: The fatal incident occurred on Monday in the Bahira area of Uluberia in West Bengal’s Howrah district, where a poolcar carrying schoolchildren back home plunged into a roadside pond.
According to police, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while navigating the stretch, causing it to skid off the road and fall into the water.

Local residents and police personnel immediately rushed to the spot and pulled the children out of the partially submerged vehicle. All five were taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. Doctors declared three of the children dead on arrival, while the other two survived with injuries and remain under treatment.
A senior police officer said the driver has been detained for questioning to assess whether rash driving or negligence led to the crash. The poolcar has also been impounded for mechanical inspection as part of the investigation. Authorities are examining eyewitness accounts and the condition of the vehicle as they continue to determine the exact cause of the accident.
