Thiruvananthapuram: The central government has suggested drone surveillance for ensuring the efficiency of MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) works. Photos and videos of the daily works will be gathered by the drones. This will help the authorities to analyse the quality of such works.
Earlier, an online attendance system was introduced for daily wage workers. They were asked to send their photos via a mobile app, both before starting their work and after completing it. In addition, salary cuts were also deployed, in case they fail to meet their daily targets.
However, the MGNREGA works in Kerala which employs close to 21.88 lakh people, is adjudged to be efficient and hassle-free with lesser anomalies. The current changes being introduced by the centre in connection with the MGNREGA works are mostly applicable for the North Indian states. Meanwhile, Keral will inform the centre about the practical difficulties in using drones for surveillance on MGNREGA works.
