Mumbai: The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has withdrawn the proposal to stop the audits related to various ministries and departments under the central government. A decision in this regard was taken amid an online meeting of senior officers on Tuesday. 

It is learnt that senior officials have been directed not to carry out new audits for the time being and ongoing audits need not be stopped as well. However, officials have only been given verbal instructions in this regard, reports said. 

Earlier, ‘Mathrubhumi’ had reported that the CAG had directed to withdraw all major audits concerning union ministries. Furthermore, opposition parties also weaponised the frauds in several central government projects, which came to light through CAG reports. 

Following this, three CAG officials who carried out the audits were issued transfers. Although the CAG claimed that the transfers were issued on a usual basis, the move had put the Centre on the defensive.
