New Delhi: Gaganpreet, the woman accused of driving the BMW that fatally struck a motorcycle in Delhi, leading to the death of a senior finance ministry official, has been taken into custody after being discharged from the hospital on Monday, police said.

The victim, Navjot Singh (52), Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs and a resident of Hari Nagar, died in the crash on Ring Road near Delhi Cantonment Metro Station on Sunday afternoon. His wife, who was riding with him, sustained serious injuries. The couple was returning home after visiting Bangla Sahib Gurdwara when the accident took place.

Gaganpreet and her husband, residents of Gurugram, were also hurt in the collision and admitted to the hospital. After her treatment, she was detained for questioning and legal proceedings, officials confirmed.

Police have registered a case against her under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 281 (rash driving), 125B (endangering life or personal safety), 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence or giving false information).

The BMW and the motorcycle have been seized, and a forensic examination of the accident site has been conducted as part of the probe.
