A wedding celebration in Bihar's Saharsa district descended into chaos after a disagreement over the food menu allegedly triggered a violent clash between the bride's and groom's families, leaving around a dozen people injured. Videos circulating on social media show a shocking scene in which guests are chased, beaten with sticks and, in some instances, men are seen brandishing swords.

The incident took place in Simri Bakhtiyarpur town during a wedding ceremony held on Thursday. According to police, the nikah was completed peacefully in the afternoon. The violence reportedly erupted only after the wedding rituals had concluded and guests gathered for the feast.

According to members of the groom's family, they had been assured that mutton would be served at the wedding banquet. However, when the meal was served, they found chicken instead. The unexpected change allegedly sparked an argument between the baraatis and the bride's family, with tempers escalating within minutes.

The groom's relatives claimed that when they questioned the change in the menu, the disagreement turned physical. They alleged that members of the bride's side attacked the wedding guests, leading to a large-scale clash.

One of the injured, Mohammad Asif, alleged that members of the groom's side merely pointed out that they had been promised mutton but were served chicken. He claimed the bride's side accused the baraatis of attending only for the food before the confrontation spiralled into violence. Asif further alleged that several local residents joined the assault and named a few people whom he claimed were involved.

Videos of the clash go viral

Several videos from the wedding venue have since surfaced online, capturing scenes of panic and violence. In the clips, groups of men can allegedly be seen attacking guests with sticks, while others appear to be carrying swords, as people scramble to escape.

Around a dozen people sustained injuries in the clash and were shifted to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Simri Bakhtiyarpur for treatment.

Police reached the venue after receiving information about the violence and brought the situation under control.
