Patna: The outgoing NDA government in Bihar on Monday held its final cabinet meeting, where Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was formally authorised to recommend the dissolution of the current Assembly, official sources confirmed.

The brief meeting, which lasted around 10 minutes, unanimously passed a resolution enabling Kumar to move the dissolution proposal. Shortly after, the Chief Minister met Governor Arif Mohammad Khan at Raj Bhavan to convey the cabinet’s decision.

Nitish Kumar returned to his residence from Raj Bhavan after tendering his resignation, marking the formal end of the outgoing government as preparations begin for the formation of Bihar Government 2.0.

Swearing-in set for November 20

Preparations are in full swing at Gandhi Maidan, which will remain closed to the public until November 20, the scheduled date for the swearing-in ceremony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the event.

The NDA secured a decisive victory, winning over 200 of the 243 seats. The BJP emerged as the single largest party with 89 seats, followed closely by JD(U) with 85 seats.

New cabinet structure:

Union Minister and HAM(S) custodian Jitan Ram Manjhi confirmed that the new government will be sworn in on November 20. The upcoming cabinet is expected to include:

16 ministers from BJP

14–15 ministers from JD(U)

3 from LJP (Ram Vilas)

1 from Hindustan Awam Morcha (S)

1 from Rashtriya Lok Morcha

 

“We thank the people of Bihar profusely for this victory,” Manjhi said, adding that discussions on ministerial portfolios will follow soon.

BJP Legislature Party to elect leader on November 18

Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal announced that the BJP Legislature Party will elect its leader on November 18 at Atal Sabhaghar. Central observers will also be present at the meeting.

The Legislature Party meeting will be followed by an NDA meeting to finalise the coalition’s leadership and cabinet structure. The full government formation process is expected to be completed by November 21.

Jaiswal said, “After electing our leader and concluding the NDA meeting, the work of forming the government will be completed by the 21st.”

With the NDA’s overwhelming mandate, Nitish Kumar is set to return as Chief Minister, steering Bihar Government 2.0 into a new term.
